The Swan Hotel is in the centre of Whalley and has recently undergone a refurbishment. We popped in yesterday for a light lunch and were not disappointed with the decor and the food! On entering the waitress cheerily greeted us with'hello'and seated us in one of the two large circular booths in the dining section. The main bar section is across the other side of the bar which made this dining area quieter. The food menu is written up on a chalkboard over the fireplace. Though not a huge menu there was plenty of choice. I ordered a club sandwich and my fellow diner ordered the salmon and broccoli fishcakes. We were pleasantly surprised with the size of the portions and the presentation which included a small bowl of homemade chunky chips and salad. Behind the bar was a good selection of wines (i had a very pleasant glass of South African chenin blanc) and my guest had a pint of Timothy Taylor Landlord selected from the range of cask ales on offer. Upstairs the Swan boasts 6 en-suite bedrooms with all the mod-cons and breakfast included. All in all we had a very pleasant lunch in a lovely atmosphere and will definitely return!
