About the Pub
I stayed at The Kings Head last weekend and the pub is under new management. All the locals I met were singing their praises and saying how they have really turned the place round. The b & b rooms have recently undergone extensive refurbishment and the room I stayed in overlooked Lewes castle. The pub garden is a lovely place to sit in the nice weather and enjoy a pint or two, and the food is delicious; the menu utilising local produce where possible

Local gem!
Really surprised to read some of the comments below, can only think it must have been initial teething problems. In my experience The Kings Head is one of the best places in Lewes for food, really interesting dishes and none of the frozen brought in rubbish you often find in other 'gastro pubs', they really do make it all from scratch. A really good edition to the Lewes food scene.

Another fabulous meal at The Kings Head!
Went to The Kings Head this friday for dinner, service and food absolutely fantastic as usual. My partner tried the sussex smokie fishcake which was delicious and the waitress was kind enough to recommend a wine that went perfectly. We really love the quality of the ingredients they use on their menu and the laid back atmosphere. If you haven't been yet, try it!

Excellent. Service good and food superb.
We visited the Kings Head with friends a few weeks ago, having not been back for several years - since our major disappointment with service & quality provided by the previous tenants/owners.
We had a lovely evening with very good food well presented and excellent reception and service.
Last Friday - I googled the Kings Head to find their telephone number. Following our recent experience I could not believe the recent comments entered on the website. Regardless, we went back that evening for what resulted in an excellent evening. Again, good food, well presented. Warm welcome and very good service. Kings Head - keep up the good work; we'll be back.

Great food....but......
We just had lunch at The Kings Head and greatly enjoyed the food which was very tasty.
HOWEVER I think that the service was extremely slow ,as there didn't appear to be more than a handful of people in the pub with us.
We came to the pub with the intention of using the Viva Lewes deal, as we have done in the past in a number of other Lewes Restaurants. I feel were treated rudely due to lack of clarity about the use of the vouchers. The bar maid obviously knew that we were using the vouchers as there was discussion about our booking in the middle of our meal.I feel that she was blaming and very ungracious about the situation and sadly I don't think I will be coming to the pub to eat in the future
It should have been an enjoyable lunch but left me rather annoyed and feeling like I had spent a lot of money without intending to do so
In my opinion it is a foolhardy way to go about business in a town like Lewes which as you know operates on word of mouth!!!!

Went to Kings Head on 14th July 2011, were greeted with smiles, ordered 2 drinks, asked if we could see the menu. Then curtley told if we wanted food we would have to order quickly as they were going to be busy, looked around about six people in the pub. We got our meal it was ok, then before we had even finished the barmaid brought over the bill. How rude, as a Lewes person, living and working in Lewes I will certainly not be singing the praises of the Kings Head.

Wedding Party at the King's Head
My daughter and her partner had their wedding party at the King's Head during January. Around 75 of us gathered there. The staff made us so welcome, the food was absolutely delicious, everything was - just perfect. I shall tell everyone that if they want to have an informal lovely afternoon then they could do no better than The Kings Head in Southover Street, Lewes.

Health concerns - avoid!
Visited at the end of July 09, served moldy bread as part of our two year old daughters meal which she unfortunately ate half of before we noticed. Very upsetting experience and has had a bad stomach since. VERY begrudgingly gave a refund even though we left half way through our meal very distressed. Enviro Health notified next day.
