When?
When will the current Landlord realise he can't treat people like rubbish! (want to put a different word in here but fear the comment may get deleted!). This place COULD be a gold mine, but with the current Landlord taking the reins and not the Lanlady, this place has NO hope of ever being more than sub-standard.

I have lived in this area all my life and the Downsman as it is now is the best its ever been. Find the staff always friendly and the food is very good. If there is a pub to avoid it would be the manor, no friendly atmosphere and over priced. Obviously those who visit the manor are clearly happy with that.

The Manor & The Grenadier are better!
It depends who is working. sometimes itd ok, sometimes its terrible. But it is close to where myself and friend live so sometimes we go there wondering why we bothered. our advice would be to go elsewhere. the landlord has a big attitude problem.

A Tradional Pub with good home cooked food.

What a joke
You would think that pubs like this didn't exist anymore. Very cold atmosphere. Staff grumpy and drinks over priced considering it's an estate pub. We go to The Manor usually and will from now on.

What
I have been using this pub since the new landlord/lady took over in 2000. Before they took over, the place was a dump, what a change! The beer is well kept and the food delicious. If there is a problem it's always dealt with politely. This is by far the best pub in hangleton, just ask the locals! If in doubt come and see for yourself!

:-(
Give it a miss! What a shame and a waste of a great opportunity.

We shall drink elsewhere!

Very unfriendly.
Went for a pre-dinner drink in town. Very unfriendly member of staff. She was more interested in being on the phone than serving. Even the locals were getting annoyed with her. I can't understand why people are being employed who clearly can't do the job and aren't interested. Couldn't wait to get out of there. (birthday meal in Brighton was great though!! - thanks Sam)

out of touch
feels like I'm in a village hall. The other side is a revaltion: they have coal and logs! Why is one half of the pub chilled to the bone and the other half live like kings?

A baguette is a cheap lunch time dish. A Ham sandwich for 5.95!!!!!!!

For a place situated in such a great location to grab tourists and the local community this is a greatly missed opportunity to pull in a huge amount of custom.

If I were you, I would stop of at the Hangleton Manor for far better service and grub.

The Downsman has missed out on a major opportunity, sadly. Just ask the locals :)
