Great Pub and the food was wonderful. Thanks
the food was excellent and plentyfull. the staff were very courteous and couldnt do enough. Only complaint was that the beer could have been colder
I can assure you I am not related to the management! Rather, I just felt moved to write a review of my positive experience, after reading a run of bad reports that could easily have put me off going back. I, in turn, could be equally suspicious that these are being written by people (competitors?!) that have it in for this pub! Anyway, someone should alert the management to this website, as it sounds like people are having very mixed experiences here. If I go back and am not satisfied, I shall let you know! Thanks, Tim. Either Tim A is related to the management or they had a different set of staff in when he visited! The barman who served us last night was off-hand to the point of rudeness - a smile costs nothing. Sunday, January 28, 2007 Rating: rosettes
I have enjoyed several nice meals at this pub in the past, so was concerned to read a few recent reviews that are very negative. They could have put me off going back, but I'm glad they didn't! We had a great bar snack last Saturday, the staff were all friendly, and nothing is too much trouble. The food (and beer) was of a high standard, the menu is varied and the portions good. There are two 'snugs' to sit out of the way of the main part of the pub, to have drinks or wait for a table, so I don't really know what the last few reviews are on about?! Will be going again soon. Disappointed Disappointing We were lookinfg forward to eating here as the pub is usually fully booked. It was a busy Saturday night but we felt rushed from the start and as all the pub is geared to dining there was nowhere to enjoy a drink before our meal and after several requests from the rather scary waitress we agreed to go to our table. The food seemed expensive for what it was. Band soup, very little choice for the vegetarian/fish eater in our group, un-imaginative vegetables, for which you paid extra and over -elaborate puds. The one we sampled was dry. We had to ask for a wine list, even for the table candle to be lit and the waitress seemed put out at our request to keep our bread after the first course! As one of your other comments states just not a particularly pleasant dining experience. Wednesday, January 10, 2007 Rating: rosettes
Food was good, eventhough we had to ask for vegetables which arrived lukewarm ten minutes after the main course. Unfortunately, waitresses were surly and hovered, waiting to whisk away plates and glasses virtually before they were empty. To top it all, the manager tapped his watch and inforjmed us that our time was up (we were not told on booking that our party of 19 had just an hour to eat) before removing us from the tables. Not a pleasant dining experience. Friday, December 29, 2006 Rating: rosettes
We visited this pup last saturday and we were disappointed that we had not been told on booking that the only menu on a saturday was the a la carte. Good value for the dining room but a little over priced when you are sitting in the bar amongst the drinkers. The food was good but it did lack the options of some potato of some sort with the Lamb Shank. Please when taking bookings make sure to say the option of bar food is not available week-ends and the those out for a bar snack are not shacked by having to pay a la carte prices if we had not booked the table we would have walked away Wednesday, October 18, 2006
Andrew Short Great Food, Great Value A regular visitor to the Samuel Pepys, I and friends always find the food very good and extremely good value compared to other local competition. My only criticism is that they seem to struggle with larger tables (8+). Must ensure menu rotation! Thursday, September 14, 2006
Adrian Tilley Fantastic food at a reasonable price. Great ambience in a well decorated pub, modern but maintaining a village pub feel. The staff are very friendly. The food is absolutely brilliant and very good value for money. The first place i recommend to any who asks me for drinks or a meal. Thursday, February 3, 2005
