Appalling Service and Food
We have been to the Nelson Arms three times previously and our experiences were pretty good and the food was always reasonably good and that’s why we chose to go there for my daughter’s birthday dinner a couple of nights ago, 10th Nov 2016. I must say the standard of the service and food was less than sub-standard, almost abysmal. Firstly, our onions rings were extremely oily. Our mains finally arrived almost half hour after our starters. This is on a Thursday night when service levels should really be up and running. My son and I had the rump steak which cost $18.50 each and we agreed that this was one of the worst steaks we’ve ever had. It was as if it was just taken out of the freezer and cooked and it was chewy as rubber. My wife even tasted it and agreed. My wife’s chicken/mushroom linguini had pieces of chicken in it which appeared to have been cooked and thrown in with no taste at all. My daughter had the ribs but the chips were cold and greasy and had to be taken back. They were brought back hot but still greasy. We complained, very politely, to a young lady staff, who appeared to be lost in all this. I asked her if the chef is the same one and she said that the chef had just been changed recently. My daughter liked the ribs and asked the waitress to pack it for taking home but the waitress forgot it. She later apologised for this and, quite rightly, agreed not to charge for my wife’s and daughter’s meals. She also thanked us for our feedback.

But that is not the really the problem. The next morning my wife had an absolutely nasty phone call from an irate woman who kept screaming at her: “we are not Claridges you know” and that “there are people who are starving out there” etc. all of which made no sense to my wife and had no bearing at all to the fact that the food was hopeless and service level below standard. This woman, ostensibly the owner or manager, also screamed at my wife that we are not allowed to come back to her pub ever, to which my wife responded that this is exactly our sentiments and intention too. Her rude, nasty and boorish behavior in response to perfectly honest constructive criticism is extremely appalling and my wife is still reeling from the shock of it. Is it normal for a paying customer to get an ear-bashing and walloping for not liking sub-standard food and giving a feedback on it? I always thought Basil Fawlty was a comic character, but apparently there is a real live Ms Fawlty right here in the Nelson Arms. I would have thought that the correct, civilized and appropriate behavior was for her to offer an apology for the bad experience we had and for spoiling my daughter’s birthday dinner. I can say for sure that this is one establishment that I will definitely not be going back to ever again considering there are so many wonderful places with delightfully wonderful people running it and serving good, value for money food.

New Landlord New Mood
One of the prettier pubs in Farnham with low beams and angles that give it a quaint mood and look. I have seen this pub go through 3 sets of hands over the last few years and finally I find the new landlords are doing some justice to the mood and style of this fantastic pub. I stopped by on Sunday for one pint and wish I could have stayed longer, the real ale (muddler) was delicious, the atmosphere just as good and the staff very friendly. I am so pleased for its resurgence, and will be eating there this weekend.

A bad Pub& Bad Food!
We heard it had changed hands again & gave it a go. Very cold atmosphere- no welcome- just a look from the bar, which probably translated intoWhat are YOU doing in here? Blank faced sullen young server. God, this WAS A MISTAKE. Saw a meal go out .Only a few miserable people in on a Friday night.Complaint was heard about the food we saw. OH DEAR!

Very Poor
I've known the Nelson for decades, but recent experience exceeded disappointment levels to above that of when it was painted white. Was served a warm glass of white wine, and my chips on my meal brought a whole new meaning to twice cooked chips. ie. They looked like lunchtimes reheated leftovers. Staff surly and did not want to hear my feedback even though I was asked how my meal was.
If the landlord ever gets anyone decent in to run this place it could still be a great pub, but no chance at the moment.

Hilariously bad food!
Don't get me wrong, the atmosphere is very nice, the staff attentive, but the food (Sunday) was hilariously bad, ie not edible in a 70's nostalgic throwback way...We did the typical English thing about not complaining (it was a Christmas party) .....but seriously horrid food was served...(check out the kitchen and a lot is explained...) So for a satirical throwback this is the place to go... I will try to be brave and contact the manager tomorrow! - So much for the reemergence in England of good pub food,,,

Good burger but....
Been here a few times and it is nice and relaxed although there always seems to be a bit of tension between customers and the staff when you enter? the burgers are good but the place feels and looks (on the terrace) untidy. And my one pet hate sticky table!!!

Great pub shame about the grub!!!!!!!
The Nelson goes from very good to very poor in a matter of days unfortunatly the bad days out weigh the good. The menu sounds great but whenit arrives its an anti climax as it looks nothing like the menu describes.

Good but...
Been there twice with the family. Food is generally of a good standard and atmosphere (on a Sunday) is quite relaxed. However, the description of some of the dishes is not always accurate (e.g. creme brulee that is really a custardy cream desert - no brulee).

The Best Burger
A firend and I have rated burgers from all over the south east and The Nelson Arms is the clear winner. If you get a chance, pop in and try one of their home made burgers - simply the best!

Appalling customer service by management.
We were charged for a meal we had to send back due to poor quality of ingredients, during a conversation with the owner to rectify this he turned his back on us and walked away. A truly arrogant man. (The young bar staff on the other hand were most polite).

Absolutely fab!
A low beamed ceiling pub with great character. The staff were brilliant and the food was fantastic. Couldn't recommend it more highly.
