Good but not that good
The meal I had at The Wicked lady last week was decent enough but was let down by ill thought out combinations. I started with chicken livers which were served with pancetta and pear, a great contrast between the two meats but the wedges of cooked pear were pointless, completely lacking the acidity required to cut the fat of the other ingredients. My main course was lamb rump and chorizo which are far too strongly flavoured to combine together. The food was good quality and well cooked but the chef really needs to think about how flavours and textures combine. The service was very good and the pub is lovely but the wine list was a bit limited. A mixed bag all in all, nice but I wouldn't rush back.

Visited Last Saturday evening, service was attentative without being intrusive. Had the Rump steak with peppercorn sauce fantastic and my wife's Pasta dish with Haddock was truly exeptional. cant wait to return.

New Wicked Lady
The Wicked Lady re-opened in December as something very new and very different so ignore any reviews before then.

I went there for the first time last week and it was superb. Really good food and a lovely waitress from Australia.

Hard to describe the pub, but I would probably class it as a stylish gastro-pub. A bit more expensive than it was before (although it does the best pizzas I have had in a long time).

Probably not everyones cup of tea but if you appreciate the nicer things in life you will really enjoy it here. Can't wait for the summer to enjoy the massive beer garden

Appalling
Disinterested, unfriendly staff. Waited nearly an hour for 2 glasses of water and 2 soft drinks. Had to go to the bar twice to remind them we existed to be told the drinks had been entered in the computer, that they were busy and they only had one bar man on duty. The restaurant was half full. Funny how 2 waitresses, 1 bar man and a manager can fail to organise 4 drinks between them, preferring instead to stand behind the bar doing nothing. We ended up walking out with no food and no drinks after almost an hour. No one tried to appease us, the manager was surly and annoyed we left and one of the staff had the audacity to call out after us, We hope to see you again soon!. Had a great meal at Cafe Rouge in St Albans instead.

Nice Lunch
A month ago we came here for lunch with our children mid way through a muddy walk (left boots at door!) . Had no problems with service and the food was fine. Will probably go back soon.

Taken for a ride
Waste of good money
Awful service, waitresses disinterested in customers, nearly an hour before having to ask for orders to be taken. Took so long for starters and main courses they must have had to slaughter the meat. No condiments on table and had to mix sauces. After three hours had to leave without desserts. Totally dissatisfied, certainly not to be recommended.

rubbish
Waited 45 minutes for our order to be taken while all the waitresses had an argument. Wine forgotten and then dumped on table with no glasses. Food distinctly average but made worse by the appalling service.

How Can it be this BAD!
A superb location is just about all you can say for the Wicked Lady, that and its non-smoking policy makes its attractive to whingeing hypocrites (I don't smoke, but it's a pub for God's sake!). Personally I'd rather drink in a rat infested sewer than go back to this sad parody of a pub. Poor beer, poor service, a real don't give a monkeys attitude.

awful
booked a table for 8.15. eventually sat down to food at 9.45.
starters ok, mains pathetic. my steak may have been medium about 15 minutes before it was taken off the grill, it was rump, not Sirloin as on the menu, and the root veg, carrots and parsnips were raw.
