Once again amazing food at affordable prices. This time had lasagne which was gorgeous, my friend had Salmon and Prawn salad what a banquet.
Definitely reconmend this pub, wine was really good as well.
Coming from the Netherlands we were really suprised from the quality and quantity of the food from the Rams head. We ate in many English pubs but until now - this is the best one.
visited rams head for 1st time two nights ago with some friends (we had already booked) - it was superb with fantastic value food and what portion sizes - we all found the staff very pleasant and didn't find them pushy - it was busy and one of our party tried to book for tonight but it was full so booked for a week's time am hoping to return with some friends for lunch

Arrived at 9.20 and were made to feel welcom for 50 minutes - then the barman started stacking stools around us At 10.10 when we asked if we were ok for another round and he replied it would be ok if we didn't take long over them - We left shortly afterwards never to return!

Nice food, rushed service
Visited the rams around 7 times, The last 3 or 4 times have been rushed, pushy and at times very rude. Was asked once on booking over the phone for the following day if we could have an idea of what we wanted to eat as there is already another table booked in for the time. Once at 715pm staff where putting chairs on the tables and sweeping around us-very very rude and was told so. Another time was asked by the waitress to hurrry up and order as the chef will not cook more than one tables food at a time!!! (what kind of chef is this??) Its a real shame as the food is delicious but the chef pushes the waitress to hurry customers! I know a lot of people who will not return to rams head due to this reason! On our last visist table booked for 630pm arrived at 615pm and by 620pm was already being hounded to order and would we like our starters with our main so it would be quicker?? safe to say we didnt bother eating and left!
Wish the pub signs advised that booking is advisable. Tried to get a meal here 2 weeks ago, but we were turned away from a half empty eatery at 7pm in the evening. Reason given was that we hadn't booked AND the chef does not like to get too busy. We were also told that it is advisable to book for the Sunday Carvery.

Firstly forget what the place looks like or where it is situated. it is on the corner of a busy 3 way junction on the only road through Longton Village.
Car parking very limited, but some on road parking available down the road at the side of the Church.
small dining area, but nice to see they haven't gone for the pack them in spacing, nice and roomy.
I dont want to spoil the experience only to say, some old favourites done in a new way very well. Booking is essential as the eating is more restaurant type than pub. slightly more expensive than normal pub fayre but worth it for a touch of class. the food is very nice, not a huge menu but something for everyone.
If you want more than pub food..but dont want restaurant prices..this is the place. While i am sure the owners will shudder at this next comment..it isnt for children. find a relative, babysitter and enjoy the food.

I use the Rams Head fegularly for sovial occassions and to entertain business clients. The food is excellent with a very comorehensive menu. The portions are amazing and always staggee new guests. The staff very professionalyet laid back. I would recommend The Rams Head to everyone. Try the Steak and Ale pie....not even Desperate Dan vould finish it

new updated photo
The new picture of this pub shows the the newly madeover premises, awash with flowers and hanging baskets; new furniture, terraces and outdoor garden area; even the car park has new tarmac. A credit to the new owners and Longton. Well done.
Catering for all ages, great food and real ales.
Since June 2009, the new landlord/chef Rob has been very much in charge. Superb atmosphere, wonderful flower display and terrace seating. Children are at home here. The food is excellent, and booking is essential. I recommend the rib eye with pepper sauce. Starters are not needed, the portions are huge.
the food is excellent and very very reasonably priced, just read a couple of comments about the price of the food being too expensive??!!!
i think my meal was less than £15 and that was one of the dearest things on the menu, it was fillet steak with all the trimmings and more !i have never had such a large portion of food at such a high standard!
i would of happily paid double for my meal as it was well worth every penny., and i have been known to be called tight and a little fuusy at times too :)
overall one of the best meals i have ever had and my husband and family and friends agree! deffinately worth a visit, i shall be going again tonight if i can get a table!!
The menu choice was excellent..
The food was superb, very well presented and PLENTY of it!! The staff were welcoming and the service was good too.
We will certainly recommend it to others and we'll be back for sure!
The food was excellent, staff frinedly and a good atmosphere. Value for money as the food was plentiful and the finest quality. We highly recomend this pub. A great improvement.
