Gold mine
I have never ever had a bad meal from this place and would love to eat here more. not that it is too pricey..but that it is allways full!
Range of food is great, service is efficient, cooked well and very reasonably priced.
My only niggle, a little cramped.
Booking advised, lunch times even though it is out in the country still get busy., evenings forget it unless booked or are passing and dont mind a wait.

Wonderful meal
See my previous comment. The food here has always been good. The previous comment below must be from someone from another pub. Jealous. A good pub deserves a good comment. Midge Hall is a good meal and good beer.

since our last visit the menus have changed.more choice yes but the price and the portion sizes have changed also.price wise slight increase but portion size has halved for the price of a few extra chips you should not have to ask for more! very dissapointed in the actual ammount of food you get

Have been to this pub a few times and have always enjoyed it. My partner likes the guest beers the landlord has on and i have never been disappointed with the meals, i especially like the live entertainment that is provided every three or four weeks.

Brilliant
I too have never had a bad meal in Ten years. We visit once every 10 weeks or so. I agree the landlord is a proper landlord, chatty and very helpful. the food cannot be faulted and the recent refurb is superb. The Real ales are amongst the best kept I have tasted. Keep it up and well done.

Never had a bad meal yet
As a frequent visitor to the midge hall pub. I can honestly say that I have never had a bad meal yet. The service is excellent and the landlord a proper pub landlord, he chats, is attentive and keeps very good beer.
I would happily recommend anyone to the midge hall for good honest food

I can't understand all the negatives about the food. For a country pub(considering its size)the choice of food is amazing & plentiful.
The waitresses always have a ready smile and Keith the Landlord is a real gem.
The only downside is because it's only small it's very difficult to get to the bar with punters hanging around it,but that's only when it's packed.

Excellent
This was my first visit, and I was pleased I had ignored the bad comments on this website, and tried it for myself. Could not fault the food or the service. We were a party of five at Sunday lunch time, and although packed, we were not pushed at all.

VERY POOR
Me and the missus both had Cumberland sausge with chips and 2 veg.I don't think there was much meat in the sausage - tasted of nothing and looked to be mainly breadcrumbs.Carrotsand green beans were disgusting - soggy and tasteless. The chips were of the frozen variety cooked in something that was in need of changing.
The sweets again were very poor - Raspberry Pavlova was soggy with hardlly a hint of meringue. The coffee renoir was the smallest portion ever with 2 very small scoops of what was supposed to be vanilla!!!
What has happened to this pub - the meals used to be superb - during my visit I heard 3 different people complain about their food to the waitress.
It is my last visit

Huge disappointment
My wife had been telling me for some time that the Midge Hall had had good reviews, though I was doubtful. Anyway I finally caved in and off we went last Saturday afternoon. On entering, my wife said do you want to eat in here? we'll give it a try I said, not realising that she didn't like the look of the place. The pub is dingy with tatty upholstery and is full of clutter. The place mats which were laid at our table looked like they should have been binned years ago, chipped round the edges. I didn't like the look of anything on the specials board so ordered cumberland sausage, chips and egg. It was nothing to write home about. My wife ordered tomato sausages with horseradish and mustard mash, but had to send it back as the mash was hot on the outside, cold on the inside, obviously microwaved. The carrots were boiled to oblivion and unseasoned and tasted of nothing but water. Suffice to say we won't be going again.

Superb!
Midge Hall has always been a family favourite of ours. The food is second to none, all freshly prepared and comes in huge portions. The cakes look fab too, although I have always been too stuffed to try one! A great pub with a warm atmosphere and cool beer, perfect!

excellent
I was recommended to go here by a colleague at work. There is an excellent range of food on the menu, and every plate we saw coming out of the kitchen looked delicious, and our was no exception. It was clear that all the food was freshly prepared, which makes a change as so many pubs seem to prefer to re-heat dishes.

Highly recommended!
