About the Pub
The Anchor has grown in size over the years and has always been a popular place for its special entertainment nights. It can be hard to get served at the bar on these occasions but well worth trying! During the day the usual Steak and Ale menu is available plus a large specials board. The chilli jacket potato is a favourite of mine!

Brilliant
The previous comment I believe was accurate at the time and I knew the gentlemen who passed but we know have new managers and cooks. Today I attended the funeral of an Anchor legend known as Bob Diamond on account of his better that Neil's versions on the Karaoke. Bob T's wake was fantastic, the hot pot was full of chucks of steak served with generous helpings of red cabbage and beetroot followed by apple pie with cream and custard and very competitively priced charged by the head on those who turned up rather than a set amount arranged beforehand. well done Robert and Mike. Thank you so much

Total rip off
Booked and paid 250 for a hotpot and sandwiches for a loyal patron of the Anchor for 20 plus years wake. Got a few trays of tasteless sandwiches and a tray of gravy, I had said it looked like soup but I have seen more meat or veg in a packet soup. The server was looking around the tray trying to find the potatoes and meat in the gravy there was that few in there, He is obviously not a Lancashire man as we all know hotpot is made with lamb not mince meat.. Complaint fell on deaf ears, he just changed the name to a stew, I'm sure trading standards would like that one. It must have cost all of 20 no refund offered even though he made hundreds in drinks that day, We had to order pizzas, chips etc because we were all still starving,
Ruined the day for the grieving family. The waitresses were lovely.so they get the 1 rosette

Food not so great
Just had the Rib Eye at the Anchor now run by Greene King brewery.
Asked for a medium steak, it came very well done, the chips were raw and no onion rings as per the menu.
I got a sorry of the landlord, well that makes it just fine then. No refund offered nor gesture of goodwill for a future visit. It didn't seem like he was aiming to please at all.

Beautiful pub however
They need to seriously improve the food the food is awful and to add to my experience I spent the day after in bed with upset stomach
Tried ringing to let them know what I had eaten and the phone number is unavailable
So the only thing differant I had to eat from my partner was the black pudding stack

Bravo!
Like a Pheonix from the flames this once run down pub is now on the up and every credit to the new licencees.
Refurbishment work is well underway and the new Sports Bar is buzzing when live sports are being shown on the huge tv screen.
Regular weekend entertainment and special offers on selected beers are bringing the punters back. The traditional home cooked food is great value for money with an extensive menu and the Sunday lunches are to die for. A visit to this pub is a must.

Been a few times now to The Anchor and I have to say we have had no problems at all. Lovely food and welcoming staff. Considering the new owners have only been in there about 6 months the place is looking so much better than before and there's more refurbishment to be done. Would recommend

Boycott, for the love of humanity.
Somehow filthier than before it was done up, arrogant owner who surrounds himself with idiots to fuel his ego. But more than anything, it's a bad pub - chavy atmosphere and awful staff. Avoid like the plague

Apalling
Highchair was dirty and I was provided with a sponge to clean it which smelt of beer.
food for 4 took 40 mins to arrive in spite of place being quiet.
Had to order 3 meals for toddler till we hit on one which was available
reportedly meat-free pasta bake contained chicken. there was a footprint on the table. a comment on the facebook page was removed rather than responded to

Buy a gun and shoot yourself instead.
Run by a someone who lies to the embarrassment of the customers. Claims he has no interest in promoting the pub as he gets a set wage from the brewery.

Dump
As we walked in all of the inbred nuisance regulars at the bar stared us out then proceeded to swear loudly and intimidate everyone . The beer was stale and the place needs a wash or a fire , a pub full of dirty unwashed thilthy scum and that's just the women. This pub needs turning into a car park

Our local
Please read my post in June last year. With that in mind the brewary need to spend money on the place. The current landlord is waisting time and effort unless they do. I was amongst one of the biggest supporters of this pub. Forget karaoke on a Sunday now and forget the bands on Friday. Punch taverns either spend the money or sell it to someone who will. Steve, you tried for a time.

I have been going in the Anchor for 30 years through good times and bad. Recently the pub has been run by people who appear not to know how to run a pub. It was dirty, the bar staff were rude and they kept running out of real ale and lager!. However it is now under new management and things are improving. It is clean, the bar staff are polite, cheerful and welcoming and they have two guests ales on at all times. The food might be a bit basic but once the kitchen is up and running the menu should improve. Friday nights are music nights great bands and solo artists playing different music genres. We even have the quiz back on Monday nights. So come and support the Anchor let us make it a community pub again.

A true reflection of the state of the pub industry
Visited this week to watch the football. What a disappointment. This pub used to be lively, with a good selection of food and a mixed age range of customers. Now, the food choice consisted of pie, with or without peas, the decor was shabby and the clientle was mainly older males. The two young bar staff were friendly and smartly dressed, hence the one star. It was sad to see a once excellent pub reduced to this sad condition. I would suggest that the owners visit the nearby Rams Head to see how successful it could be.

Our Local
We only have one local. The Anchor. It's been run down for years and in need of a refit but under the new management and staff things have been much improved lately. Sunday Night Karaoke is the best around. In my youth I sang everywhere and Steve runs the best and well organised with over 70,000 songs. The Real ale is very well looked after, not long ago the pub frequently ran out of Ales but the new landlord now keeps two on all the time. Snacks are available and the new landlord is hoping to offer a full menu soon. Ok, this sounds like an advert I know. Whilst I do know the landlord well this is also my local and I hope you will support us. We have many good singers on Sundays so come along and join in or just listen. Fridays are live music nights with a host of regular artists and some new ones. Hope we see you soon.

Visited the Anchor after some years a couple of months ago on a Thursday night. There was a guy doing Elvis and John Lennon songs. He was a ringer for Lennon. What a great night out. Will hopefully get back sometime in future; just hope the same singer is on. Anyone know his name (website?)

Good times
Used to work at the Anchor quite a few years ago. Worked for Dave Campbell and Norman and Pauline - have they left now? Happy days; is Gary still propping up the bar? Was always hectic on a Tuesday - but good fun.
