Bon Apetite
I came here in a party of 4 and loved the beautiful setting. The staff were very efficient and helpful and I loved the ginger cat that seemed to own the place!

The menu was great and I could hardly decide what to eat. Scallops were lush and the waiter helped choose a nice wine that would complement the food. Everything was perfect and I felt the price reflected well on the cost of quality local food lovingly prepared.

A high class establishment for anyone who likes gastro pubs. We all loved it and will go back again.

Absolutely fantastic
We came to celebrate my mother in laws' 75th birthday and had the most amazing meal. My starter was huge slice of foie gras, served with a confit of fig and a shot of sweet wine - & was to die for. This was followed by a perfectly cooked fillet of beef, again with scrummy foie gras, on a bed of spinach served with a port jus. The chocolate nemesis was to die for. The other guests in our party had salmon, oxtail and pork - all of which was absolutely execellent. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

came here for meal in the week. Restaurant totally empty, no ambience, staff indifferent (as though they knew that we wouldn't enjoy meal) we ordered a starter (for me) and main (my partner) pear salad consisted of four microscopic slices of pear arranged around my souffle. my partners burger (at 14) was woefully average and the so-called 'hand-made' chips were like McDonalds only probably more tasteless. The whole 'meal' came to 35 with 'service' and we felt that we had been 'stuffed' without feeling stuffed. Completely underwhelming and pretentious, we won't be coming back

Great food, service and setting
Had a wonderful Sunday lunch sitting outside in the sun. Having lived in North Hampshire for 3 years, it took us too long to find this great place - we will certainly be back!

The Very Best.
The Old House at Home is without doubt the very best establishment in Hampshire - the owners Oli and Suli Williams are the nicest people, and Jason is a great chef and the food is excellent in every way - if I could live there I would be very happy. Please dont listen to any bad reviews as who ever has written one clearly doesnt understand good food and excellent service.

great food
both me and my husband had the most delightfull meal at this pub.
we drove from london to devon and pulled into hook and found signs to newnham. walked into little village pub and found the menu to be a selection of the finest
of european dishes i have seen.
food was great, simple classics done with great detail.
main courses were amazing.
pudding... honeycombe ice cream to die.
and the cheese selection was great not just chedar and brie...
wow will be back.

charlotte you should try cooking at home for once and not just microwave food you will then really understand the time and effot that everyone does at this pub........maybe mc donalds is your style and a milk shake

CHARLOTTE
BLOODY AWFUL
My husband and I went for a meal on a Thursday evening, we sat in the non-smoking area and were the only people there. From the time we arrived we were totally ignored by the owner (lady) who seemed too busy chatting to all her friends in the bar. The level of service we recieved (or rather didn't) was appalling, not once were we asked how our meal was, nor was our wine poured. The starters were boring & unimaginative, the main courses were average, we decided not to go any further as we just wanted to leave. We asked for the bill only to have a 10% service charge added, which we asked to be taken off! We thought the whole evening was a total disaster and we won't be returning.

Good dinner after Guildford theatre
Very good starters, lots to chose from. However far too much on plates for the main course which was a terrible waste of good food.
Excellent welcome and good service. Would return sometime.

Without doubt the best pub in the area where imaginative dishes using fresh ingredients are plentiful. Staff always welcoming and pleasant. Suggest that Mike (Jan 6th) and Ben (Oct 05) stick to their local Harvester as they obvoiusly don't appreciate quality.

V.Disappointing,:Clearly not the restaurant it was
The Old House At Home lets itself down badly and by no means warrants the price point at which it positions itself.

Whilst the food was average to good - the standard of service was complacent verging on dismissive, and cleanliness through-out the restaurant poor.

A restaurant lacking in ambience doesn't benefit from lackadaisical staff.

Cognacs served in tumblers over ice, G&T with no lemon, cloudy pints of bitter - all smacks of an alarming lack of awareness, doing good products a disservice.

If I were the chef I'd be looking to ply my trade elsewhere.

one of the best pubs outside of london. the front of house staff are friendly and always willing to help, there is never anything they will not do for you.
on are visit we were thrilled to find the menu had changed from the night before when questioned about changes the young waitress rebecca said that the chef changes the menu everyday. the choices ten starters and thirteeen main courses are a joy to the eye.
we started with scallops, tiger prawns and fresh squid in a thai dressing it was stunning so fresh and crisp my partner had bloody mary consomme which was a golden clear soup with the power and bite of a well executed bloody mary in a glass, when i asked about the chef jason reeves i found he had worked in some very fine london restaurants and that his talent goes from strengh to strengh with every dish he produces.
there is two in the kitchen and well the restaurant was full and the food all came out with gasps from other customers.
are main courses consisted of a large skate wing with morocan influance and baby vine tomatos 8 out of 10 whilst annie had fillet of venison with a sauce that was full of punch and intense flavour the meat so tender and pink.
the wine we had was fantastic the owner's olly and sukie are vine fanatics and the selection is one of the best i have seen.
finally puddings arrived a stunning chocolate nemesis and home made honey combe ice cream the only two dishes that stay on the menu were first class.
this was a real treat to find this pub.
thank you to olly and sukie for this ace place to eat and of course jason for his hard work and effort in constructing every dish.
