Perhaps a bit small and rustic, but that adds to the charm. The owner, staff, and patrons were all warm and welcoming. Andy Chung who performed folk music on Sunday nights was brilliant. We had a blast---Can't wait to return!

Hell's teeth! This has turned into a right shit-hole. Racist garbage from locals and pretendy hard-man wannabe Adonis behind the bar. Gie's a brek!

Visited the UK in November 2007. Must have visited 30 pubs over the course of 10 days, some of which are famous. Without a doubt, the Scotsmans' Lounge is the one I remember the best. We were heading back to the hotel after a day of sightseeing, but as soon as we heard the music coming out of this place, we had to stop for a drink (turned into many). What we found was an incredible little pub with great music, great drink, a party-filled atmosphere and friendly staff. That one drink turned into many. Wish we had places like this in Canada.

This is the best pub in the world MATE
Before our good mate Brian (Edinburgh local) took us to this pub he told us it was the best pub in Edinburgh by the time we were where leaving after our 3 days stay we told him he was wrong and said This is the best pub in the world MATE. At first we taught we'd just have one but we where soon lured in by the magical atmosphere within. Our first night here there was a great duo of a fiddler and a guitarist. They played traditional Irish and Scottish music and all my mates sang along, what a pub mate. The drink was so cheap but the ice cubes must have been expensive because they where very tight when it came to giving them out! :) We all left the pub well oiled that night for little or no money! The next day we went to another pub but no1 could settle because we where all very excited of going back to The Scotmans Lounge we had heard that there was a different band on this night and that they where brillant. When we got back to it we cud hardly get in the door but everyone inside squeezed in as they always do in this pub to accomodate people. Great pub mate When we got inside we where not let down by the band, there was a wee scottish man but he was no ordinary scottish man he was a chinese scottish man! Probably one of the most talented Chinese Scottish men I have ever seen. His partner played some sort of a music instrument but I don't no the name of it, it was like a bag or sack with pipes coming out of it and was very loud. My friend Enda liked the band so much he recorded them on his camera phone and we have watched them every day since. Another magical night was had by us all in this hidden gem and again we left with plenty of money and a deep since of belonging and love for what we now describe as The Best Pub In The World. We meet many of the regulars and the staff were very nice. The one down side I have of this pub and I am clutching at straws here is perhaps the toilets could be closer to the band or maybe equiped with speakers so you won'tt have to miss hearing the band. On our last day we went back for one last drink and a few snaps and we joked with the barman that we would be interested in opening up The Scotmans Lounge in our own home town and had he ever taught of franchising it out! I don't think he took us serious but you never know.I am already planning my next trip back to what we now call The Greatest Pub in the World Mate

All the staff behind the bar are friendly and make you feel at home. There is always a great atmosphere in the true fashion of the Scots. Drop in and try it for yourself
Just back from Scotland on May 8th and spent many evenings at the Scotsman. The bands were great and the locals danced to every song. Murph thanks for a fun filled vacation...Kath and Naomi
Sat / Sun afternoons
Doogi Rush at the Scotsman on Fri/Sat afternoons is absolutely fantastic. He plays a huge range of music and songs, and is never short of a comment or two about his audience, or life in general which always raises a laugh.
A good congenial atmosphere, top class.

The Scotsmans is a great local bar for everyone. If your ever in Edinburgh then get yourself into the Scotsman and you'll feel more than welcome. We are all looking forward to our next pint in the Scotsman.

Scotsman Lounge the highlight of our trip
We were in Edinburgh for 4 nights and thankfully, discovered John Murphy and his Scotsman's Lounge on our first night there....which means we spent all of our nights there! Well worth checking out. John and the patrons of the Scotsman make all feel more than welcome. Great music too! Check out Andy Chung if you're in Edinburgh!

Rantum Scantum Are Wonderful!!
We were in the capital of schotland for 1 week and we first saw the band Rantum Scantum in the Scotsman. Brilliant Live Energy Music! We spent the rest of our nights watching them in other bars (The Beau Nasties is their big band). Scotsman has real flavour. Yum!
Expensive and Smokey
Only been once and although you get a good atmosphere the price of their drinks are very expensive. Also when you walk in you are hit by how smokey the bar is. My advice to tourists would be to look else where. My choice for folk music pub would be finnigans wake everytime.

Lived in Edinburgh for 22 years and only visited this pub for first time last night. Don't think I'll be back. The beer is very expensive (nearly £3 a pint!),and the attitude of the guys behind the bar stinks! On the plus side they do allow you plenty drinking up time and are not being forced out the door like most city centre bars.
The music was ok but don't think I'll be back in a hurry.

Enchanted by Rantum Scantum
On a planned visit to Ireland from the U.S.A, we landed in Scotland and decided to skip Ireland. Ended up at the Scotsman on the advice of the taxi driver. Even though I seldom drink, that night at the Scotsmant, listening to Rantum Scantum is one of the best memories of the trip. I listen to their CD every day in the car and play my fiddle along with it every chance I get. I never tire of Bobby's earthy voice and Eddy's heavenly fiddle music. If Eddy and Bobby ever tour the US and come to California, we will be there!

A good laugh!
Old-fashioned, cosy wee pub, with live music on every night. The big friendly face of the owner, John Murphy, can usually be spotted on busy nights, keeping a watchful eye over his establishment. Rantum Scantum are good on Fri/Sat nights (why are they listed here as The Roods?) but the best night is Sunday, when Andy Chung is on. Lots of traditional old Scottish folk songs and a great atmosphere. He'll huv yeez a' up singin' an dancin'!
My friend and i went to Edinburgh last month and we did had a meeting with John, very interesting
what he was all telling is in the castle!
Greez from 2 dutchies!
