Graham Newman
Moody Manager
On Saturday, some freinds, my wife
and myself attended The Talbot
restaurant in Bishopton, something
we had done a number of times.
Despite booking a table to avoid
waiting, the four of us were
eventually shown to our table
Thirty five minutes after the time
we booked for. No apologies or
explanations were given.
After eating an acceptable
starter, we eventually received
our main course over one hour
after the time we had booked for.
I had ordered a Fillet steak and
asked for it to be cooked
medium. Unfortunately it was
served Rare. Not a bit rare but
very rare with all but the outside
being raw red meat.
I wasn't happy and asked for a
member of staff to attend the
table with a view to sending it
back to be further cooked. The
restaurant manager/owner decided
to stick his two penneth in and
became very confrontational and
intimidating. Criticism was
something he obviously could not
tolerate. He ranted about problems
he'd had with his father that day
which was something I didn't wish
to hear. The manager then lost the
plot and ordered the four of us
out of the premises, which we were
glad to do under the
What are we, a bunch of tearaway
rowdy teenagers? No, I am a
disabled 62 year old man who uses
a walking stick and has inoperable
cancer, heart disease, diabetes,
Coeliac disease and arthritis, and
I'm the youngest.
The man obviously doesn't have the
temperament to accept criticism or
to run a restaurant.
Whatever happened to the old
adage, rule one:-The customer is
always right and rule two :- if
the customer is wrong, refer to
rule one.
You live and learn and hopefully
the reader will bear this tale in
mind when deciding where to go.

I was recommended the talbot through a friend. 6 years on I love it more and more. The ambience the cuisine is no less than a Michelin star restaurant! I have also had several groups of friends and such good feedback! God bless your business and my wishes are it stays and maintains its good reputation for many more years to come .

Not a pub anymore
I can't understand why this place is on a website called Best Pubs. It has been a pub for centuries but the current owners have turned it into nothing more than a restaurant.

Look at all the reviews - they are from people who drive there for a meal. No-one talks about this place as a pub as you would never think of going there if you were just out for a drink - unless your idea of a night out is drinking in those restricted areas restaurants put you whilst waiting to be seated.

So again I ask - why is it on a website promoting the best pubs?

I am sorry to say the last time I visited the Talbot for a meal my company and I were rather disapointed.
It would seem a cut back on the usual lovely bread rolls and portions had been made.
The portions of food were smaller to.
the service was rather slow, however they were busy.
It would be nice if the food was served correctly instead of being handed across the table for the diner to place in position.
I have frequented this nice pub for many years and always enjoyed the beer, food and service. Lets hope this time was a one off

I dine at the Talbot whenever I get the chance. The choice is always very good and the quality equally so. Staff are very attentive whilst maintaining the balance of not being over fussy. I often recommend this establishment to my friends. Good quality eating places are rare and this is one.

Great Venue and Great Food
Can I just add that I have been here twice and on each occasion I brought a different party. Each person has thoroughly enjoyed the evening and the food is excellent. This is a treasure and we should use and appreciate it as often as we can.

I chose to have our Wedding Aiversary meal here and as usual it was fabulous. Lovley relaxed atmosphere, beautifully decorated, white table cloths, got dressed up and felt others had made an effort too. Food choice very good and cooked to perfection, melt in the mouth pork and beef. friendly staff and customers. Bill more than we thought but no complaints as it was excellent!

Well worth a visit.
The Talbot was recommended by a friend earlier this year and we have since visited 4 times.
Service good, food excellent and a relaxed atmosphere.
Possibly the best sunday lunch i have ever eaten and the best meals fo miles around.
A little out of the way but definitely worth the drive.

2 very talented chefs, and well done to the matrod
I am a regualar in the talbot and in my oppinon the food is second to none, this is without a doubt one of the best resteraunts in the area, i love the food, the chefs are very very talented and know exactly what to do. The resteraunt does however slip down on the service, employing many young waiters and waitreses, to be a top resteraunt all around this would have to be delt with. Dont get me rong the starters and main course are beutiful, beautiful food, beautiful garnish and you can tell the food comes from the heart! The deserts are also well garnished and taste delicioiuse, although the all do generally look the same they taste nice, i would not say exceptional though
