John Harrison Complete disaster this place - AVOID
You need to avoid this place like the plague, service is terrible, we went this week and sat down for our meal, we were then handed our menus, we then ordered our drinks and when she returned handed us the specials menu for the day. 2 of us ordered burger and chips from the main menu and 2 of us ordered the chicken roast off the specials menu. The server then told us they have no burgers and no chicken roasts, so having spent 10 minute deciding on what we wanted then had to decide again, why did they not tell us when we arrived what they did not have available on the menu. Eventually 2 of us ordered fish, 1 a pasta with tomato sauce and another a risotto. When it arrived the rissoto was swimming in oil and the egg was snotty ! nowhere near cooked enough, the fish was watery and the pasta had a tiny ammount of tomato sauce. I could go on but can't be bothered it was a poor experience and one I do not want to repeat, I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS PUB in addition I will tell my friends and family never to go back here. The place may look great but the food and service is awful! AVOID!!

s knights bad service | ||
We had a meal booked at the Grand Union, Soulbury, for lunch today - us two and our baby. We had to wait over an hour to receive our meals - no fun with an increasingly bored and tired 15 month baby. Although the manager apologised (and offered us drinks) we do feel that this time wait was really not on. We suggest the pub either increases the number of sous-chefs at peak times - or - has a smaller menu.

Paul Taylor never again
We were looking foward to celebrating a birthday lunch with 6 30 somethings.. From the outside the pub looks great, a fantastic setting that any business owner would be jealous of. The open fires, beautiful stone flooring and beamed ceiling... Unfortunately this is where the positives end. The service was amazingly slow for a start. We opted for the flat mushrooms on ciabatta which arrived as a plate of grey slop upon a non-toasted soggy ciabatta, My friends mushrooms were stone cold in the middle. My main course of Sausages, Mash and Onion Gravy was expected with eagerness, a firm favorite of mine. A plate of brown arrived, the 3 tasteless sausages balanced on top of stodgy mash which was drenched in tepid packet gravy. Not a single onion in sight, nor even the slightest hint of onion flavour. My friends chicken dish resembled a poor attempt at KFC, with the smallest limpest excuse for a salad. 5 small peices of leetuce, no dressing, bruised and brown around the edges. I opted out of desert and went for coffee, my friends braved the challenged and out came the chocolate tart with off creme fraiche. When I tasted the creme fraiche it was very clearly on the turn, and left a similar taste to stinking bishop in my mouth.. So a change to single cream was in order, which arrived 10 minutes later only following being told by the waitress that creme fraiche was support to taste off!. Having lived and eaten before, I know what this stuff is supposed to taste like, thank you!. All in all a disappointment, a trip to a wild bean cafe at a petrol station would have provided a far more enjoyable meal, unfortunately a birthday celebration tarnished by poor service and the worst food I have eaten in a restaurant for manay many years. But the coffee was fresh, I will give them that, the filthy cup it arived in and the disgusting crockery and cutlery cleaniness I can not forgive. I would recommend this pub only if you are wishing to end a relationship, make someone aware of a bereavment or simply to tel someone you dont like them!

Dan Wells So bad its closed...
NEWSFLASH! The Kingston Tavern has closed down! We drove past the place hoping to catch a quick lunctime drink there (we enjoy torturing ourselves by going to bad pubs for a laugh!) And all the windows have been boarded up, and the beautiful playground (that by the way was so dilapidated that any kid playing on it would get tuberculosis or worse) has even been dismantled and taken away by the bailiffs! This pub had dire service, looked like the decor had been designed by Ronald McDonald's adolescent and Tempestuous brother and the beer was generally flat or the lines hadnt been cleaned! The only thing it had going for it was convenience. Lets hope that somebody gives the place a much needed refurbishment and a more commercially-minded operator takes over!

Mrs Edwards Food ok. The rest? - not so good.
My husband and I took out two girls there for a birthday lunch. It all started off very well with our server being most helpful finding booster chairs for the girls. He was very attentive. However the food took an absolute age to come and although it was ok - it wasn't great. The cutlery was absolutely filthy. Our soft drinks were sent back as the glasses were also filthy and smelt so bad you just couldn't put your nose in the glass. Each time we were told it must be the lemons giving off the unusual smell and that the glasses were fine. We had the drinks replaced three times but we still couldn't drink them. It was so obviously the dishwasher or the tea towels but no one admitted that. Very mediocre experience I'm afraid - but pleasant server.

Had the misfortune to eat lunch here recently - my partner ordered fish and chips and commented on it's taste which he thought was not right - I tried it and it was so off I had to spit it out into a napkin as the taste was so bad. I estimated that the fish was off by at least three days. The waitress witnessed this and offered a glass of water which I said no to as I had a soft drink. They refunded my partner's meal and took £1 off mine which I couldn't finish due to the taste in my mouth which wouldn't go away. Waitress apologised but didn't act surprised at what happened which was a bit worrying!! We are considering taking this further.

Matt The newly re-opened Black Horse looks stunning
Thankfully the pub has returned to its Black Horse name and has left behind all the pre-cooked, re-heated 'food' it served whilst known as the Proud Perch. It has been wonderfully redesigned inside and the steaks we ate were cooked to perfection. However, we noticed all the food coming out the kitchen looked fantastic. Staff were very helpful and attentive and in all, we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening! Wine was a bit pricey though. And we noticed the phone number isn't the one advertised on this webpage

The plough is that sort of pub if you want a nice pint you'll get it. If you want a quiet drink you wont, this pub is about the best you can get for a community pub no fuss just a great pint. Kev the landlord is easy going, he has made this a nice pub to drink in.

LameWolf Friendly service, and Real Ales available
Such a lovely change to find a pub that doesn't allow squalling kids inside! Indeed, no under 14's allowed at all - and those over 14 only if eating a meal with an adult. The muzak leaves a lot to be desired, but the staff are friendly and efficient, and there is always a selection of Real Ales available. These are kept a little colder than is ideal, but I have never yet had a bad pint in this pub. My husband and I often take our Telegraph in there at the weekend, to do the crossword over a relaxing pint.

John Gerrie Refused service
We were on a narrowboat shortbreak last weekend, and stayed overnight outside the Navigation Inn. When we went into the pub for a meal, we were given a most unfriendly greeting from the woman behind the bar, who told us we would have to wait an hour as we didnt have a reservation. Despite there being 3 tables free in the restaurant, and because we had 4 children with us (young teenagers), we werent allowed to wait in the bar area. At that point we asked if we could speak to the proprietor, but were told he was not available, nor would she give us a number to contact him on. When we appealed to her good nature, not wanting to walk back to the boat in the rain and wind, we were told we could wait outside on the covered balcony for an hour until there was a place in the restaurant. I decided that the proprietor might be interested to know that his staff are keeping customers waiting outside in the storm while tables stood empty in the restaurant, so I took a photograph of the open tables in the restaurant and of the balcony area. On seeing me using my camera, the woman behind the bar promptly told me to leave, and said that should we stay, we would not be served anyway. We left, feeling very disgruntled, and wonder whether the proprietor knows that his staff are happy to lose 6 paying customers, and gain a very annoyed person, who is prepared to spread the word of the poor service in his pub.

John Avoid! | ||
Avoid this place at all costs. Its supposed to be family frendly. We were left standing for 15 mins before staff told us there's no need to stand you just get a table. OK wer though - we ordered our food - 1 hour later it showed up - cold - the glasses were dirty. The place is messy and dirty. Not a pleasent experience.

George Hill Best pubs? Get real!
Manager (landlady?) sitting this side, eating, reading paper - visibly annoyed (groaned) when two of us dropped in - together with one regular - at lunchtime. Place pretty well empty. No food - except crisps - which proved to be OUT-OF-DATE!!! NO DIET DRINKS!!! (I'm diabetic) Toilets disgraceful - NO paper in either of ladies' cubicles. EVERYTHING (tabletops, carpets etc) felt sticky
